INNOVATUR: IO3 – Book of Case studies in Sustainable and Smart Tourism

This book will be composed by a set of case studies related to various chosen aspects of sustainable and smart tourism in specific locations in the Czech Republic, in Norway and possibly in other countries as well. A group of authors from PUEB and from USN will be assigned to develop the case studies.

This book is expected to be used as a supporting material to the textbook in the teaching activities of lecturers in the field of sustainable and smart tourism oriented to undergraduate students.

The book will address case studies related to conflicting issues (conflict of interests and crisis management), ecotourism and cultural tourism (e.g. through gastronomy and folklore) in rural areas with community-based initiatives, resilience and sustainability issues in tourism (pandemics, climate change adaptation, disaster recovery plans, etc). Cases studies will also illustrate the application of smart technologies in tourism activities through multistakeholder approach.

A preliminary outline of the book of cases is available in attachment to this project proposal (see the file with workplan and GANNT that also contains the list of academic staff of both universities and their involvement in each intellectual output).

Expected impact and transferability potential:

The book of cases will be designed to be used by lecturers involved in various disciplines in this field. The less experienced lecturers will be guided on how to use the case studies in the most effective manner with their students. The case studies will be elaborated in order to engage students actively in figuring out the principles of the various disciplines addressed in the field of sustainable and smart tourism by abstracting from the examples. This will develop their skills in: Problem solving. Analytical tools, quantitative and/or qualitative, depending on the case. It will also serve as an inspiration for change in postgraduate study level.
